I just learned from this profHacker post that if you have an.edu email, you can easily increase free storage on Dropbox. Here’s a table for comparison.
Initial Free Storage | Referral | Limit | |
Normal | 2GB | 250mb | 8GB |
Educational Accounts | 2GB | 500mb | 18GB |
But the best part about this is that it’s retroactive! So if you originally registered using a regular email account, you can change it to your edu account and you’ll storage will automatically be upgraded (of course, if you don’t have a Dropbox account already, you can just register with your edu email and presumably, you should be all set). Here are the steps for changing your email and verifying your edu address.
- sign in with your regular email
- go to Accounts
- choose the Account Settings tab
- follow the instructions to change your email address
- then go to www.dropbox.com/edu (see here) and request a confirmation email
- an email will be sent to your new .edu account and once your confirm the email, your space will automatically be upgraded retroactively
